In Pasighat, a delegation from the Arunachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Association (APUTA), led by President Dr Eli Doye and General Secretary Dr Lige Sora, met with Vice Chancellor Dr Milorari Modi in his office on Thursday. The delegation reiterated APUTA’s longstanding demand that the university raise the retirement age for teachers from 60 to 65 years, aligning the policy with University Grants Commission guidelines.

APUTA had previously submitted a memorandum to the governor, who serves as the university’s chancellor, on 30 October 2025. Over the nearly ten months that have passed, the association reports that no substantive progress has been made on the issue.

The association argues that the current retirement age at APU does not match UGC recommendations or the practice of most central and state universities nationwide. Raising the superannuation age, it says, would help retain experienced faculty, strengthen academic leadership, ensure continuity in teaching, research and administration, and provide mentoring opportunities for younger scholars.

Dr Modi responded by assuring the delegation that the matter would be taken up positively and pursued with the appropriate authorities at the earliest, according to APUTA’s release.
