On September 25, Governor Nand Kishore Yadav convened a review meeting with officials of the Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries Board (NKVIB) at Lok Bhavan in Kohima. The session aimed to assess the Board’s recent activities and future initiatives.
During the meeting, the Board presented a comprehensive overview of its programmes, achievements, and ongoing projects. Efforts to promote Khadi, village industries, entrepreneurship, skill development, and employment generation across the state were highlighted.
The discussion also covered the implementation of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). The Board explained how margin‑money support was extended to artisans, entrepreneurs, institutions, and societies to foster self‑employment and village industries. It identified several challenges, including limited bank sanctions, collateral demands, insufficient loan amounts, and slow credit processing at rural branches.
The Governor reviewed the operations of the Multi‑Disciplinary Training Centre in Dimapur and outlined infrastructure initiatives backed by the North Eastern Council. These include the Common Facility Centre and Emporium for Handloom and Handicraft at Agri Expo, the Centre for Promotion of Indigenous Handloom and Handicrafts at Diezephe, and the Handicraft Facility Centre in Kohima, whose construction began on April 1, 2026. The Common Facility Centre cum Training Centre at Kohima is nearing completion, and the Khadi Plaza in Dimapur is expected to open soon. The Board also presented future plans to identify skilled artisans for handicraft centres in Dimapur and Kohima under a public‑private partnership model, to train workers in production and marketing, and to establish display and sales hubs for indigenous products. The Governor underscored the importance of strengthening entrepreneurship, skill development, employment generation, and the promotion of indigenous Khadi, handloom, and handicraft goods in Nagaland.
