Ungma Senso Mongdang slams NSCN leaders over Jamir remarks

The Ungma Senso Mongdang (USM), the apex organisation of Ungma village in Dimapur, issued a strong objection to remarks made by NSCN (I-M) leaders V.S. Atem and R.H. Raising on September 16. The leaders had questioned former Nagaland chief minister and governor Dr. S.C. Jamir’s right to speak on the Naga political issue, claiming he had no mandate.

USM president Imtisungkum Longkumer and general secretary Temsunungsang Jamir said the comments were an insult to Jamir and an affront to the people of Ungma. They argued that Atem and Raising were not Nagas from Nagaland and therefore lacked the authority to challenge Jamir’s mandate, describing him as a bona fide indigenous citizen and “true son of the soil” of Ungma.

The organisation highlighted Ungma’s role in the Naga struggle, noting that the Second Naga People’s Convention was held in the village in May 1958 and that a Forum for Naga Reconciliation meeting took place on August 23, 2025, bringing together representatives of different factions and civil society groups.

USM rejected attempts by non‑Nagaland elements to interfere in Nagaland’s political affairs and warned that any effort to silence or discredit a legitimate citizen would be met with resistance. It called on Naga organisations to unite against divisive politics, expressed solidarity with the Ao Senden ultimatum, and criticised MLA Achumbemo Kikon for trading the birthright of a citizen for political mileage.
