An alleged attack on Sikkim‑based rapper Ugen Namgyal Bhutia, known as UNB, took place near Tiwari Gaon while the artist was traveling to Roing after a performance at a festival in Anini. Reports say a group of eight to ten men assaulted UNB and his team in a remote area about 39 km from Roing, a location with no network connectivity that has made eyewitness testimony difficult.
Roing police have begun a probe, identifying the vehicle used in the assault and a suspect whose role is still being confirmed. The superintendent of police, Ringu Ngupok, said the investigation is being carried out thoroughly by the local force and that the case has not yet been transferred to a Special Investigation Team. Technical analysis is underway, and investigators are also looking into possible motives, including a known professional rivalry between UNB and Arunachal‑based rapper Don Kam.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu addressed the youth of Arunachal Pradesh, urging them to uphold the principle of Atithi Devo Bhava and to treat visiting artists and guests with dignity and warmth. He highlighted how festivals can promote the state as a tourism destination, creating jobs, boosting revenue and attracting investment.
Khandu confirmed he had spoken with the Chief Minister of Sikkim to coordinate efforts for justice. He noted that an FIR has already been registered and that both state governments will work together to ensure a fair outcome while strengthening the state’s welcoming approach to visitors and performers.
