In William Nagar, East Garo Hills, an inquiry has been launched into the Dawa Gittinggre development project. The investigation focuses on the roles of the Village Employment Council (VEC) president and secretary, who are responsible for the project’s work order and overall execution.
The VEC officials, together with the Samanda C&RD Block Development Officer (BDO), have been scrutinized for their handling of the project’s procurement and implementation. According to statements from the VEC president, the work order has not been fully executed, and the project’s objectives have not been met. The BDO’s involvement has been questioned, with concerns raised about the coordination between the council and the block administration.
The Dawa Gittinggre project was sanctioned in the 2023‑24 fiscal year and includes several infrastructure components: a water tank, a CC footpath, an irrigation dam managed by the Soil Department, and the repair of an AWC building scheduled for the 2025‑26 fiscal year. The project also features a sign board that marks its location and status.
Despite the approvals, reports indicate that the water tank—measured at 7 units—and the irrigation dam—measured at 2 units—have not been completed to the required standards. The VEC president has expressed that the project’s progress is stalled, citing delays in material supply and unclear directives from the BDO.
The inquiry will examine the procurement records, the work order compliance, and the coordination between the VEC and the block administration. Findings are expected to clarify whether the project’s objectives can be achieved within the planned timeline and budget, and to recommend corrective actions if necessary.
