Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has directed all shops, traders, commercial establishments and other businesses within its jurisdiction to prominently display their business name, nature of trade and municipal licence details at the entrance or frontage of their premises by 30 September 2026.
In a press release, DMC chief executive officer Dr. Kuzonyi Wideo explained that the signboard must clearly show the name of the establishment, the nature of the business or trade, the DMC trade licence, shop licence or permit number, and the GSTIN where applicable.
The council also stated that any other particulars mandated by applicable laws, rules, regulations or council directions must be included, and that the information should be clear, legible and readily visible to aid public identification of establishments and to verify their municipal licence status.
DMC warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period would invite necessary action under the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, and related regulations. Such action could include penalties and, where legally permissible and after due process, suspension or cancellation of the trade licence. The council has advised all concerned establishments to ensure compliance before the deadline to avoid penalties and other consequential action.
