A road project for which land compensation was paid by the state government as far back as 2001 is finally set to move toward construction. The Dimapur district administration has carried out a joint survey of a proposed bypass road that would run from Amar Flour Mill to Burma Camp (Coconut Turning) in Dimapur town.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang told Nagaland Post that the 1.2‑kilometre, 150‑foot‑wide road had been planned more than two decades ago. Although compensation had already been paid, the road had never been built.
The project has now received funding sanctioned to the Public Works Department (National Highway) under the Special Assistance for Capital Investment. The district administration has been directed to submit a status report and clear any remaining obstructions so that work can begin as soon as possible.
A joint inspection and verification were carried out on Thursday by officials from the district administration, police, land records and survey, and PWD (NH), together with representatives of the Naga Council Dimapur, the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation, and the GB Union (Sadar). The inspection found no major obstruction along the proposed alignment, and only one or two buildings may have to be demolished to facilitate construction.
