The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has condemned an armed attack on the village of Chawangkining, located along the IT Road, that took place between 11 pm on September 15 and 4:30 am on September 16. The organization demanded that security forces be strengthened in vulnerable Naga villages.
ANSAM said the assault was carried out by Kuki militants operating under a Suspension of Operations agreement. It also alleged that members of the Kuki community obstructed security reinforcements at several points along the IT Road while the Central Reserve Police Force was present. The group condemned the burning of houses and the firing on villagers, emphasizing that civilians must never be targeted.
The association cited earlier incidents to illustrate a pattern of obstruction, including the ambush that killed four Naga civilians in Makul Ashang on August 27 and an attack on Tapon Naga village on September 1. ANSAM stated that no community, armed group, civil organisation or individual has the right to impede security forces from reaching civilians in danger.
ANSAM urged the governments of India and Manipur to implement permanent security arrangements along the IT Road and to take decisive legal action against those responsible. The association called on the Naga community to remain vigilant, united and disciplined in the face of ongoing threats.
