On Thursday, the Longding Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) organized a training programme on “Recent Scientific Technologies in Mithun Husbandry” for mithun farmers in Nginu village, Longding district. The event, held on 6 August, drew 78 farmers from Nginu, Ngisa and surrounding villages.
Course director Dr Tilling Tayo delivered a comprehensive lecture on the salt and mineral licking block (SMLB) technology. He explained that SMLB helps congregate free‑ranging mithun at designated forest locations, facilitating easier monitoring, nutritional supplementation and health management. As part of the extension initiative, Dr Tayo announced that SMLB units would be installed in both Nginu and Ngisa to demonstrate the technology under field conditions and encourage farmer adoption.
Jomlo Mongku Mithun Farmers’ Federation chairman Tadang Tamut presented on solar rechargeable tracking devices for efficient monitoring of free‑ranging mithun in forest areas. He stressed the importance of regular foot and mouth disease vaccination and demonstrated electrical stunning as a humane method of slaughter in line with modern animal welfare standards.
Nginu village chief Longwang Wangham, Nginu‑Ngisa Mithun Farmers’ Association president Kaigam Pansa, secretary Genwang Wangsa and convener Bawang Wangsa praised the KVK for organising the first scientific training programme on mithun husbandry in the village.
