Landslides struck the Karmatar and Upper Bullung areas of West Sikkim on Monday, September 14, 2026, according to local officials.
The first slide occurred beneath a local school in Karmatar village at about 10:20 a.m. The Sikkim State Battalion’s ‘G’ Company post at Intake spotted the landslide and immediately mobilised a disaster rescue team. The team conducted a precautionary evacuation of residents from a house situated directly above the slide zone. Officials confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries.
A second slide was reported at Upper Bullung, where falling debris blocked a road. The SSB company commander and the sub‑divisional magistrate inspected the site and found that vehicular traffic remained halted, but again no casualties or property damage had been reported.
Heavy earth‑moving machinery has been requisitioned to clear the debris and restore traffic movement. The SSB and local civil authorities continue to monitor the situation and are prepared to respond to any further incidents. The precautionary rescue and rapid response by the battalion have prevented any loss of life in the affected areas.
