The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced on Monday that it will upgrade its existing 1033 National Highway Helpline to incorporate advanced technology, aiming to deliver faster and more reliable assistance to road users.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said the new system will integrate artificial intelligence, real‑time location tracking and smart emergency‑response tools. These features are expected to streamline the process of connecting travelers with the right help.
According to NHAI, the enhancements will enable the helpline to pinpoint callers’ locations, interpret calls in multiple Indian languages, and dispatch appropriate assistance more quickly. The agency emphasized that human operators will continue to play a vital role, especially in emergencies where judgment and decision‑making are essential.
Overall, the upgrade is intended to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of the 1033 helpline, ensuring that motorists receive timely support while maintaining the critical human element in crisis situations.
