On 5 August, police in Namsai district arrested Osina Chautang, a resident of Solungtoo village, after a search operation uncovered 82 grams of suspected heroin, worth an estimated 16.40 lakh rupees, according to the Arunachal Times.
The operation, led by Namsai SDPO Kengo Dirchi, was carried out on credible information. Police entered Chautang’s home and seized the drug, which is believed to have been imported from outside the district for distribution.
Chautang was taken into custody in accordance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and a case has been registered at the Namsai police station. The arrest was supervised by Namsai SP Sangey Thinley.
During preliminary questioning, the accused admitted to procuring the heroin from outside the district. Authorities are verifying this claim and are investigating the supply chain, looking for forward and backward linkages to dismantle the broader drug‑trafficking network operating in the region.
