On September 11, the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) convened coordination meetings with the Business Union Changtongya Town (BUCT) and the Business Association Tuli (BAT) in Changtongya and Tuli. The session was attended by an eleven‑member MCCI delegation led by President Tsukti Longkumer, who emphasized that the chamber represents the entire Mokokchung district, including Changtongya, Tuli and Mangkolemba.
The discussion focused on strengthening coordination among local businesses, tackling common market challenges, and exploring ways to position Mokokchung as a stronger commercial hub for neighboring districts in Eastern Nagaland. Executive Member Tsukjemwati Kichu highlighted the commercial potential of Changtongya, Tuli, Mangkolemba and the Tzürangkong area, questioning whether Changtongya could become a market serving Longleng and Tamlu. President Longkumer urged local businesses to attract customers, identify opportunities and expand markets, noting that Tuli’s geographic location has yet to be fully leveraged.
Both sides raised concerns about outside vendors operating in rural areas and weekly bazaars. MCCI pointed out that local businesses comply with registration, GST and other regulations, while it remains unclear whether external sellers meet the same requirements. The chamber warned that unchecked external markets could affect the circulation of money within the district.
BUCT representatives acknowledged that they had initially understood MCCI to represent only Mokokchung town, but they expressed support for greater coordination and the development of common guidelines. MCCI plans to visit Mangkolemba soon and has received interest from BUCT, BAT and the Mangkolemba business body to affiliate. In addition, MCCI donated Rs. 1 lakh in flood relief to people affected in Tuli and surrounding areas through Imsenperong Wati, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Tuli Sub‑Division.
