In the early hours of Saturday, two motorcyclists hurled petrol bombs at the Laban Police Station in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, police officials said. The attack took place around 2:30 AM when the miscreants threw two petrol bombs toward the station.
CCTV footage from the police station shows two officers inside the premises running for safety as the explosions occurred. No injuries were reported, but the hood of a Gypsy vehicle parked within the station compound was partially burned.
District police chief Vivek Syiem said an investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the attack. Police are analysing the CCTV footage to establish the sequence of events.
This incident marks the third petrol‑bomb attack on a police station within Shillong city limits in the past four weeks. Police have registered a case in response to the assault.
