The Centre will hold further discussions on the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, with stakeholders, including Christian organisations, after the 31‑member Joint Parliamentary Committee completes its process.
The Bill was referred to the JPC after Christian bodies and opposition parties, led by Congress, raised objections both outside and inside Parliament during its last session.
Senior BJP leader Alexander L. Hek said the Union Home Minister Amit Shah will invite Christian stakeholders to Delhi for further talks once the JPC process is finished. Hek added that the Home Minister has met with at least 35 Christian forums and leaders on the issue and that the Bill has been referred to the JPC for further discussion and consideration.
Meanwhile, Congress has vowed to highlight concerns about the FCRA during the party’s campaign for the Shillong parliamentary by‑poll. Meghalaya Congress president Vincent H. Pala accused the BJP‑led government of intending to seize institutions, NGOs and charities through the amended law and warned that certain sections could allow the takeover of NGO property if approvals are not renewed. He also criticised the government’s economic data, questioned the state’s growth rate, and accused the BJP of manipulating power and gaining MLAs without a mandate. The by‑poll is expected in November after the Special Intensive Revision of the state’s electoral rolls is completed.
