On Thursday, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited the home of the deceased musician in Imphal’s Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai. The visit followed the brutal assault that killed music teacher Chongtham Vikram in his residence in Kilokri, New Delhi. Singh met with Vikram’s parents, wife and son, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of an innocent person.
During the meeting, the chief minister assured the family that the government would provide all possible assistance and support. He promised that justice would be delivered and that the perpetrators would be brought to account. Local MLA Khumukcham Joykisan Singh was present, underscoring the political response.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation across Manipur, other northeastern states and within national and state political circles. Vikram, a respected musician and teacher, is survived by his wife and son. His family and fellow musicians are demanding justice and greater safety for people from the Northeast.
