On Tuesday, Delhi Police arrested labour contractor Sanoj in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh, and brought him to Delhi for questioning. Three members of the family that owned the Satya Niketan PG building were taken into judicial custody.
Sanoj said the basement floor was being repaired to remove accumulated waste during the rainy season, and that the ground floor was being extended for commercial use.
The building owner, 75‑year‑old Urmila, and her 81‑year‑old retired husband Hariram were produced in court and sentenced to 14 days of judicial custody. Their son Mahesh was taken into police custody for two days; he explained that he managed maintenance on behalf of his parents and that the building had been leased to PG operators “Hostel Daze” in August 2025.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi would demolish a dilapidated building adjacent to the collapse site to protect public safety. The Chief Minister’s Office posted the order on X, noting that Delhi Fire Service personnel were safely removing students’ belongings and urging residents to cooperate.
The demolition follows the suspension of five civic officials who had overseen illegal construction near Delhi University’s South Campus in Dhaula Kuan. The five‑storey “Hostel Daze” building was operating as a boys’ PG when the collapse occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, killing seven people, according to police.
