Telangana CM urges secular parties to unite against Modi

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy urged Congress, Communists and other secular parties to unite against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling the leader the “most dangerous person for the country.” Speaking at a meeting held in memory of CPI(M) stalwart Sarampalli Malla Reddy, he said that the defeat of Modi is essential for the Communists, even if the Congress remains in power.

Reddy alleged that the central government is deliberately removing anti‑BJP voter names during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll. He claimed a systematic conspiracy to delete about one crore names, citing that 81,000 voters in his own Assembly constituency of Kodangal have been flagged as anomalies. He said the BJP previously used agencies such as the ED and CBI to influence elections, and now relies on the SIR to target anti‑BJP voters.

The SIR process began with the publication of a draft roll on 17 August. Election officials notified 92 lakh voters of potential anomalies, with 60 lakh placed in the “anomalies” category and 32 lakh in the “unmapped” category. Those who receive notices may submit required documents during hearings, and election officials have stated that no name should be deleted without a notice, inquiry and a fair hearing. The final roll is scheduled for release on 19 October.

Reddy urged Communist activists to protect eligible voter names and warned that the outcome of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections could be decided by 2026 based on these deletions. He criticized the state’s main opposition party for not addressing the issue and called for a unified front, noting that Congress and Communists had cooperated during the fight against the three farm laws. CPI(M) leaders, including Prakash Karat, attended the event.
