Guwahati Literature Festival 2026 to be held on October 10

The Guwahati Literature Festival 2026 will take place on October 10, beginning at 3 p.m. The event is set for The Belasian, the fifth floor of NRB City Mall in Six Mile, Khanapara. The festival is organized by the Guwahati Literature Festival (GLF) in partnership with Numaligarh Refinery Limited and The Belasian.

GLF secretary Abid Azad said the organisers have opted for a modest, intimate gathering in response to the hardships faced by Assam’s flood‑affected communities. A special session will address long‑term rehabilitation in the Sivasagar and Charaideo districts.

Dr Kuladhar Saikia, former Asam Sahitya Sabha president and former Assam Director General of Police, will deliver the inaugural address as chief guest. Writer and GLF chief adviser Mayur Bora will give the welcome address, followed by a festival address from GLF president Purabi Borah.

The festival will feature award presentations, literary discussions and cultural performances. Padma Shri Rongbong Terang will receive the GLF Dhrupadi Asomiya Bhasha Award 2026 for his lifelong contribution to the Assamese language and promotion of cultural harmony. Sculptor Biren Singha will be honored with the GLF Ghanashyam Khanikar Kalāratna Award 2026, and writer Sibani Borah will receive the GLF Nathan Brown Literature Award 2026 for her contemporary Assamese storytelling. The GLF Dadhichi Award 2026 will be presented collectively to Assam’s teaching community. Special felicitations will be given to Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University, Galpakatha, Tholgiri, The Buddha Grove, and publishers Bandhav and Barna, among others. A panel discussion titled “Humans vs AI – The Future of Creativity and Literature” will feature writer and critic Arindam Borkataki, author Aranyak Saikia and AI co‑founder Kabyanil Talukdar, moderated by writer and journalist Nasreen Habib. The special session “Post‑Flood Sivasagar and Charaideo – What’s Next?” will bring together writer Dr Rita Chowdhury, educationist Nitumoni Dutta, filmmaker Kenny Basumatary, author Gobin Kumar Khound and Dristi Nandana, with input from Axomi24, Project Rua and Raindrops’ Pakhi children’s library initiative. Students from Gyanjyoti Academy Higher Secondary School in Sivasagar will perform the skit Watermark, followed by a solo vocal performance by Adrika Priyam Borah.
