PASIGHAT, 6 Aug – A delegation of the Arunachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Association (APUTA), led by President Dr Eli Doye and General Secretary Dr Lige Sora, met Vice Chancellor Dr Milorari Modi at his chamber in Pasighat on Thursday. The delegation reiterated APUTA’s long‑standing demand that the university raise the retirement age for teachers from 60 to 65 years, in line with guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission.
APUTA had previously submitted a memorandum on the issue to the governor, who serves as the university’s chancellor, on 30 October 2025. The association noted that nearly ten months have passed without significant progress on the matter.
The association argued that the current retirement age at APU does not conform to UGC recommendations nor to the practice followed by a majority of central and state universities across India. It said that raising the superannuation age would help the university retain experienced faculty, strengthen academic leadership, ensure continuity in teaching, research and administration, and facilitate mentoring of younger faculty and research scholars.
In response, Dr Modi assured APUTA that the matter would be taken up positively and pursued with the appropriate authorities at the earliest. The association released a statement confirming the Vice Chancellor’s commitment to the issue.
