Union Minister JP Nadda visited the flood‑hit Keyi Panyor district in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday, 6 August, to assess damage from recent flash floods and landslides. While touring Possa village and the adjacent NEEPCO colony, he met with local officials, panchayat representatives and the state Urban Affairs Minister Balo Raja.
During the tour, Nadda affirmed that the central government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stands firmly with the people of Arunachal. He said the Centre is closely monitoring the situation across the Northeast and is coordinating with the state government to ensure timely delivery of relief materials, medical assistance and financial support to affected families.
The minister reviewed the extent of damage to residential areas, public infrastructure and civic utilities. Deputy Commissioner Ankita Mishra highlighted severe damage to roads and bridges along National Highway 13, a key arterial route. NEEPCO’s Yazali Head of Project Munin Choudhary briefed on the loss of residential quarters and project infrastructure, underscoring challenges to restoring operations.
Later that day, Nadda chaired a high‑level review meeting in Itanagar with Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, state ministers, MLAs and senior administrators. He directed departments to intensify relief operations, strengthen rehabilitation efforts and ensure timely medical assistance for those impacted by the disaster.
The ongoing floods and landslides have claimed eight lives, affected 28 districts and impacted an estimated 155,858 people. According to the state Disaster Management Department, 235 roads, 40 bridges, 75 culverts, 373 water supply systems, 161 power lines, 823 electric poles, 66 irrigation projects, 122 government buildings, 41 schools, 12 hydropower projects, 26 retaining walls and 16 flood protection walls have been damaged. Agriculture and horticulture losses total 1,528.626 hectares, with 780.716 hectares of horticulture and 747.91 hectares of agriculture affected. The Centre will continue to provide swift relief, financial assistance and all necessary support until normalcy is restored.
