The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is awaiting responses from five restaurants operating on the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) premises in the Bandra‑Kurla Complex. The FDA has issued notices to the establishments over third‑party contracting arrangements that violate licensing rules, according to Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe.
Mundhe clarified that while the MCA is registered as a Food Business Operator, the actual operators of the restaurants do not hold the required licenses or registrations. He explained that the FDA issues licences to specific entities for specific locations and activities, and that an operator using another entity’s licence is illegal under the law. The FDA has already suspended the licences of Permit Room, Pavilion, Mediterranean, Oriental Swing, and Clubway & Pastry Counter due to hygiene lapses and structural violations.
The five restaurants were being run by a third‑party contractor, Shirke Infrastructure, while the FBO licences were held in the MCA’s name. The FDA has lifted the suspension on the establishments after an intervention by the Bombay High Court last month, but it remains that the licences must be held by the actual operators.
Mundhe said the FDA would issue an order once replies to the notices are received, emphasizing that only licensed operators may run food businesses. He reiterated that public health and compliance with licensing laws are the primary concerns for the FDA.
