Manipur: Huge Arms Haul, One Arrested

A major arms haul was conducted by a combined team of the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Rapid Action Force (RAF), and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) in Kangpokpi district on Monday. The operation, which involved a cordon-and-search exercise, resulted in the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition from J Songtun village.

According to the police, the recovered items include two country-made 12-bore guns, 14 12-bore guns bearing various manufacturers, serial, and licence markings, and 1,225 rounds of 12-bore ammunition. Other warfare items were also seized during the operation.

However, the security forces encountered resistance from the residents of J Songtun village, particularly women, who blocked the road with stones and demanded the return of the unverified firearms and ammunition. The situation was eventually brought under control after the security forces managed to disperse the crowd.

In a separate operation, a team of Commando Kakching Police conducted a search at Kiyamgei Awang Leikai under Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East. The operation resulted in the arrest of an active cadre of the RPF/PLA, identified as 35-year-old Nameirakpam Sanju Meitei alias Nganba, son of (L) N Warjit Meetei. The arrested cadre was found in possession of one AK Rifle, one SMG Carbine, nine magazines of different arms, 737 ammunition rounds of different calibers, three bulletproof plates, and three bulletproof jackets.

The recovered items have been handed over to the police, and further investigation is underway.
