The Department of Power, Nagaland, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with M/s Tvaksas Renewable Pvt. Ltd. to develop a 20-MW solar power plant at Tizit in Mon district, marking another step towards expanding the state’s renewable energy capacity.
The agreement was signed at the Nagaland civil secretariat conference hall, attended by senior officials from the power, finance, and law and justice departments, along with company representatives. Chief Engineer (T&G) Er. Nitovi A. Wotsa highlighted Nagaland’s present peak power demand of 203 MW, which is projected to rise to 482 MW by 2034-35.
The state aims to expand generation capacity through its own resources while encouraging private-sector participation. Principal Secretary, Power, emphasized the need to rapidly augment generation capacity, noting that solar projects offer shorter implementation periods and have no mechanical moving parts compared to hydro, wind, and thermal power systems.
Nagaland’s sub-tropical location provides good solar availability, making solar generation suitable for the state. The Principal Secretary urged for the early completion of the project, stating it would strengthen renewable energy capacity and help Nagaland meet its renewable consumption obligations. He also encouraged the developer to create employment opportunities for locals during both construction and operation.
Company directors Bhakti Dave, Hardik Dave, and Nayaan Ratandhayara presented the project’s implementation plan. The proposed plant at Lapa Lampong village in Tizit would be Nagaland’s fourth private-sector power generation initiative.
