Imphal, the capital city of Manipur, has taken a significant step towards addressing its parking woes with the inauguration of its first mechanised rotary parking facility. Located at Nagamapal, near the Chunkhang Leirak entry, the facility was officially opened by Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday.
In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh emphasized the importance of peace and dialogue among communities for the development of the state. He stressed the need for a positive mindset towards development and encouraged collective efforts from local residents and the bazaar community to ensure the proper functioning of the parking facility.
The MLA of the Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency, Khumukcham JoyKisan Singh, highlighted the problems faced by the people due to limited parking space in the market area. He lauded the Chief Minister’s initiative in resuming bus services in the state and assured that the issue of potable water scarcity in the Thangmeiband Constituency would be resolved soon under the Chief Minister’s guidance.
Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, Chief Secretary of Manipur, described the inauguration of the mechanised rotary parking system as a significant milestone for Imphal. He noted that the city is facing growing pressure on parking space due to increasing urbanisation and the rising number of vehicles, leading to a demand for organised parking facilities. The newly inaugurated facility is the first of four proposed facilities across the city.
The inaugural programme was attended by Thingbaijam Harikumar Singh, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Smart City, bazaar community members, staff, and locals among others.
