The Pfuchatsumia Youth Organisation (PYO) and Dapfhütsumia Youth Organisation (DYO) have jointly restricted the plying of heavy vehicles on two selected roads in Kohima, effective immediately. This decision was taken to address concerns over public safety and road maintenance.
According to PYO president Thejanguzo Pienyü and DYO president Ruokuoneitso Kire, the roads affected by the directive are DBS Road from P. Khel to Seikhazu Junction, D. Khel (Rheichalie Road) and Khuya near Medical College to BSF Camp, Keyake Road, P. Khel. The organisations cited the recent closure of Phesama road as the reason for the restriction, which has led to a surge in heavy trucks using these roads.
The PYO and DYO stated that the roads are not designed to handle heavy commercial traffic, resulting in damage to the infrastructure and posing risks to public safety. To mitigate this issue, all heavy vehicles have been directed to use National Highway 150 as an alternative route.
The organisations emphasized that the directive was issued in the interest of public safety, road maintenance, and smooth traffic movement. They urged all concerned parties to comply with the notice and cooperate in maintaining the safety and integrity of the roads.
