The Manipur state government has resumed public transport services on the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati route after a nearly three-year hiatus. The resumption of this service is a significant step towards restoring normal life and strengthening connectivity in the region. Two buses and five wingers carrying a total of 125 passengers marked the beginning of this new chapter on Friday.
The resumption of this service has been widely appreciated by the public, with people welcoming the restoration of this crucial inter-state link. The passengers, who come from different districts, expressed their gratitude to the state government for this positive initiative. Kiyam Kumarjit Singh from Thoubal district thanked the government and hoped that this new journey would usher in love, peace, and harmony among all communities in the state.
Another passenger, Smt. Nivedita from Khundrakpam village in Imphal East district, wished for peace in the state and God’s blessings for the government. The buses have already crossed Kangpokpi and Senapati districts and will enter Nagaland en-route to Guwahati, Assam. The successful resumption of this service is seen as a major breakthrough in restoring peace and normalcy in the region.
The reopening of the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati bus service was announced by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh during his visit to Kangpokpi district on August 8, 2026. The chief minister, along with Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen, had also announced the reopening of National Highways for the free movement of all communities.
