A major landslide occurred on National Highway 702A at New Colony in Zunheboto, Nagaland, on Wednesday, disrupting vehicular movement and raising concerns over the safety of residents and structures in the affected area. The landslide struck the highway, bringing a substantial amount of earth and debris onto the road and affecting normal traffic flow along the NH-702A stretch.
Three houses located near the landslide site were evacuated beforehand as a precautionary measure, and were subsequently completely damaged by the landslide. The timely evacuation helped avert any loss of life or injuries. However, another building in the vicinity has reportedly developed visible cracks following the incident, raising concerns about its structural stability and the possibility of further damage.
The incident has heightened concerns among residents living close to the affected area amid the possibility of further soil movement. Authorities and concerned departments are assessing the situation and taking measures to ensure public safety and restore safe vehicular movement along the highway.
Residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to remain alert and exercise caution, particularly around locations showing signs of ground movement or structural damage. No loss of life has been reported in connection with the landslide, and further assessment is expected to determine the extent of damage to buildings, road infrastructure, and surrounding areas as authorities continue to monitor the situation.
