A tragic accident occurred in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district early Tuesday, resulting in the loss of eight lives and injuring 32 others. The incident took place around 1 a.m. near Chhimka village on the Bhind-Gwalior National Highway, when a pickup truck carrying labourers collided with a dumper truck coming from the opposite direction.
According to preliminary investigations, the driver of the labourers’ vehicle lost control while attempting to avoid cattle on the highway. The vehicle veered into the wrong direction and collided head-on with the dumper truck. The impact severely damaged the vehicle, trapping several labourers inside. Eight labourers were killed in the accident, with five dying on the spot and three succumbing to injuries en route to the hospital.
The labourers were returning to their village in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district after completing paddy transplantation work in Gwalior. Police rushed to the spot and, with the help of local residents, rescued the workers trapped inside the vehicle. The injured were taken to a hospital in Gohad, where they were provided first aid, and those seriously injured were referred to Gwalior for further treatment.
Kheri Superintendent of Police Khyati Garg confirmed the eight deaths and expressed grief over the accident. Six of the deceased have been identified, and the identities of the remaining two are yet to be established. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the bereaved families and announced financial assistance of 2 lakh each for the kin of the deceased.
CM Adityanath also directed officials to coordinate with the Madhya Pradesh government to ensure the mortal remains of the Uttar Pradesh residents killed in the accident were transported to their home districts and handed over to their families, besides arranging proper medical treatment for the injured.
