A series of tragic incidents in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria, Maharajganj, and Jhansi districts on Sunday claimed the lives of six people, including five minors, who drowned in separate incidents, police reported. In Deoria, two children, Shahabuddin (12) and Touhid (10), lost their lives while bathing in a pit in the Balesar Mathia village around 2 pm. Despite efforts by villagers to rescue them, the children could not be saved.
According to Khukhundu SHO Rahul Singh, the families refused a post-mortem examination and later buried the bodies. In another incident, two youths, Prince Verma (20) and Monu Sahani (14), drowned while bathing in the Rohin River near gate 3 of Rohin Barrage in the Parsamalik police station area of Maharajganj. The incident was reported around 4.30 pm, and police recovered the bodies with the help of divers.
SHO Vivek Singh stated that Circle Officer Nautanwa and other police personnel were present at the spot, and further legal proceedings were underway. In Jhansi, two minor girls, nine-year-old Imrahi Jaan and her eight-year-old cousin Rizwana, drowned while bathing in a pond in the Mauranipur area. The girls were grazing goats with other children when the incident occurred.
People from a nearby Kali temple rushed to rescue them, but the girls were declared dead at a hospital. Mauranipur SHO Mukesh Kumar Solanki said the bodies had been sent for a post-mortem examination, and an investigation was underway.
