Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has informed that the Union Home Ministry has agreed to consider the Meghalaya Residents Safety & Security Act (MRSSA) after a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government had been pushing for the implementation of the MRSSA, which was passed by the state assembly in 2016. However, the Act has been pending with the Union Home Ministry for clearance.
Sangma stated that the Union Home Secretary has agreed to consider the MRSSA after a meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong in New Delhi. The MRSSA aims to provide safety and security to the residents of Meghalaya. Sangma has assured that the state government will work towards addressing the concerns of all stakeholders and ensure that the MRSSA is implemented in a fair and just manner.
He also stated that the Union Home Ministry has agreed to provide necessary support and guidance to the state government in this regard. The development comes as a significant boost to the MDA government. The state government has been maintaining that the Act is necessary to ensure the safety and security of the residents of Meghalaya.
