A burglary was reported at a residence in Rehabari, Guwahati Central district, with the theft of gold and silver jewellery and cash worth approximately Rs 40 lakh. An FIR, No. 0213/26, was registered at Paltan Bazar Police Station on August 13, 2026, following a complaint by Deepkamal Sharma. According to the complaint, the theft occurred between 10 am and 3:30 pm on August 12, when all family members were away at work.
Upon returning home, Sharma’s father, Omprakash Sharma, found the main gate open and unlocked. A small internal locker inside a Godrej almirah had been broken, and jewellery boxes were found empty. The stolen items include a gold necklace, multiple gold earring sets, chains, rings, and other gold and silver ornaments.
Additionally, 2kg of old silver jewellery and cash amounting to Rs 20,000 were reported missing. Sharma estimated the total value of the stolen property at between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 40 lakh. Sharma informed the police after discovering the theft, and personnel arrived at the residence shortly after.
The police inspected the house, almirah, and broken locker. The case is currently under investigation, with the complainant requesting steps to identify those involved and recover the stolen property. The police are investigating the matter, and further details are awaited.
