Nagaland is preparing to commemorate the 80th Independence Day of India, with the state-level ceremonial function scheduled to take place at the Nagaland Secretariat Plaza in Kohima on August 15 at 9 am.
The programme will commence with the hoisting of the National Flag by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, followed by a Guard of Honour presented by personnel from the State Police, paramilitary forces, Home Guards, ex-servicemen, and NCC, among others.
In addition to the state-level function, Independence Day celebrations will also be held in the districts and sub-divisions, where deputy chief ministers, ministers, advisors, and respective ADCs and SDOs will hoist the National Flag and take the Rashtriya Salute.
As per the instructions issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the National Song, Vande Mataram, will be sung upon the arrival of the chief minister at the state-level venue, followed by the hoisting of the National Flag and the National Anthem. The same sequence will be followed at Independence Day programmes in the districts and sub-divisions.
The Home Department has invited citizens to participate in the Independence Day celebrations at the state capital and in their respective districts and sub-divisions. The state-level celebration in Kohima will also be livestreamed on the official YouTube channel of the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Nagaland.
The programme will feature a march past and cultural and entertainment programmes, following the chief minister’s address. The Home Department has also instructed that when Vande Mataram is sung, members of the audience are expected to stand at attention, as they do during the National Anthem.
