A potentially deadly situation was averted in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Friday after an unexploded bomb was discovered by villagers in Sharkaphung village. The device was found while locals were foraging in a forest near the hanging bridge that connects to National Highway 202. Upon being alerted, personnel from Litan Police Station, accompanied by a BSF bomb disposal squad, rushed to the site and successfully defused the device.
According to police sources, the explosive is believed to be either a para bomb or a locally made improvised explosive device (IED). However, officials are still working to confirm its origin, and further information from the police and security agencies is awaited. The recovery of the unexploded bomb is the latest incident in the ongoing conflict in Manipur, with Sharkaphung village being one of the worst-affected areas.
The village, also known as Sikibung, falls under the jurisdiction of Litan Police Station.
