Three men from Assam’s Cachar district have been arrested for allegedly abducting two minor girls from Mizoram and sexually assaulting them inside a moving vehicle, according to police reports. The accused, identified as Amjad Hussain Laskar, 20, of Rajnagar; Saddam Hussain Laskar, 23, of Bhaga Bazar; and Rinku Das, 25, of Khaspur, were taken into custody after the two girls, aged 15 and 16, reported the alleged incident at Dholai police station in the early hours of August 3.
The girls arrived at the police station at around 2:30 am and reported that the accused had allegedly abducted them and sexually assaulted them despite their resistance. Cachar Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rajat Pal stated that the case was handled in accordance with procedures applicable to children, given the minors’ ages.
Police registered a case under various sections, including those pertaining to gang rape of a minor, abduction, and aggravated penetrative sexual assault. The investigation is currently underway, with statements of the minor survivors recorded and the accused produced before the court after completion of the initial procedures. Both girls have undergone medical examinations.
The police are providing care and protection to the girls in accordance with procedures applicable to minors and have informed their families. Investigators are also examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the girls came into contact with the accused and where they were allegedly picked up from.
According to Assam Police, the girls are residents of Kolasib district in Mizoram. Efforts to obtain a response from senior Mizoram Police officials were unsuccessful.
