Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has stated that Arunachal Pradesh’s farmers, metal producers, and manufacturers will gain greater access to global markets due to India’s recent trade agreements. In a social media post, Goyal highlighted that nine trade agreements signed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership have opened new opportunities for the northeastern state across various sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism. The trade pacts include agreements with the UK, New Zealand, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the UAE, Australia, Mauritius, and Oman, among others.
According to Goyal, farmers and processed food producers in the state will benefit from access to larger and more affluent overseas markets, leading to a boost in agricultural exports. Base metal producers are also expected to gain from improved competitiveness in international markets. The manufacturing sector in the state is likely to receive a fresh push from lower tariffs and wider export opportunities.
Products such as auto components and brake linings, which were previously confined to domestic or local markets, may find greater acceptance abroad as tariff barriers are reduced under the trade agreements. Additionally, the eco-tourism sector in the state is expected to benefit from stronger international economic linkages and greater global visibility. Goyal emphasized that the gains from these trade agreements will directly benefit people engaged in farming, manufacturing, and allied sectors.
He also highlighted that Arunachal Pradesh is well-positioned to make a bigger contribution to the government’s vision of a Viksit Bharat, aided by expanding trade opportunities and deeper integration with global markets.
