Bihar Cabinet Approves 16 Medical Colleges Under PPP Model

The Bihar Cabinet has given its approval to run 16 Medical Colleges and Hospitals under the Private Public Partnership (PPP) model, in an effort to expand quality healthcare services in the State. This decision was made on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.

The Cabinet approved the appointment of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as the Transaction Advisor for the operation of the 16 brownfield medical colleges and hospitals, including dental colleges and hospitals, under the PPP model. A Letter of Agreement (LOA) will be issued to PwC, and ₹8.27 crore has been sanctioned for the purpose. This initiative aims to strengthen modern healthcare facilities in the State and provide better medical education and healthcare services.

Out of the 16 medical colleges and hospitals, four are currently operational, while 12 are under construction. The operational colleges are located in Pawapuri, Rahui, Madhepura, and Purnea, while the under-construction colleges are in Samastipur, Saran, Madhubani, Vaishali, Bhojpur, Buxar, Siwan, Begusarai, Sitamarhi, Jamui, Munger, and Supaul.

In addition to this decision, the Cabinet also approved the establishment of a Sports Science Centre at the Rajgir Campus of the State Sports Academy. The centre will provide world-class sports resources and training facilities to athletes in Bihar. Furthermore, the Cabinet granted approval for the successful organization of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign in 2026, with ₹6.12 crore sanctioned for the purpose.

Other decisions made by the Cabinet include the transfer of land for the setting up of a Kendriya Vidyalaya and the establishment of the Bihar Industrial Security Force (BISF). The Cabinet also approved the creation of posts for the establishment of special courts for the expeditious disposal of pending cases under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Acts.

Lastly, the Cabinet gave its administrative approval for the Jamalpur Water Supply Project and the Munger Water Supply Project under the Centre-sponsored Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT 2.0). These schemes will ensure clean and regular drinking water supply in both cities.
