Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has stated that despite the state facing multiple challenges, the government is making sincere efforts to restore lasting peace with the active support of the people. He noted that encouraging signs of improvement have already begun to emerge. The Chief Minister made this statement while attending the inaugural ceremony of the 10 crores Addiction-Free Pledge Mega Campaign under the Nasha Mukta Bharat Abhiyaan and Mission SPANDAN.

The event was organised by the Brahma Kumaris, Manipur, in collaboration with its Medical Wing, at Pheidinga, Imphal. Khemchand Singh highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has envisioned Viksit Bharat 2047, with the goal of making India one of the most developed nations in the world, and that this vision can only be realised if the country’s youth remain free from the menace of drugs.

The Chief Minister shared his personal experiences from visits across Manipur, including Litan in Ukhrul district, during the most challenging periods, underscoring his government’s commitment to maintaining close engagement with the people despite the prevailing difficulties. He narrated how ethnic violence affected internally displaced persons from different communities, including Kuki, Meitei, Hmar and Paite, and consistently conveyed the same aspiration—to return to their homes and live together in peace.

Khemchand Singh expressed concern that acts of violence have repeatedly undermined efforts towards reconciliation, benefiting only those who seek to profit from conflict. He asserted that these individuals do not represent any particular community but are driven by vested interests that oppose the restoration of peace. The Chief Minister reiterated that restoring peace remains the government’s foremost priority and that there will be no compromise in ensuring justice and taking action against those responsible for crimes.

He appealed to every citizen to cooperate with the Government in rebuilding trust, restoring harmony and creating a peaceful environment essential for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. During the programme, the Chief Minister presented the Universal Peace Ambassador Award to Rajyogini B.K. Nilima and launched the campaign voucher as part of the inaugural function.

A pledge for a drug-free India was also administered during the programme, reaffirming the commitment of participants to stay away from intoxicants and spread awareness against substance abuse. State Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh and other dignitaries also attended the event.
