A sudden and intense spell of heavy rain lashed parts of Hyderabad on Monday, August 3, 2026, catching commuters off guard and slowing traffic on some stretches. The rain, which began as light showers, intensified after 4 p.m., with Kapra recording as much as 51 mm of rain in just one hour.
According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), as of 5 p.m., Kapra recorded a rainfall of 51.3mm, followed by 29.3 mm in A.S. Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar urged people to be cautious as the Weather Department has forecast heavy rains until night. He appealed to the public through a post on X, advising them not to travel unless it is an emergency and to avoid stepping out of their homes. Commissioner Sajjanar also warned against traveling through waterlogged areas and low-lying areas at the risk of flooding, stating that it is unsafe.
The Cyberabad Traffic Police issued a traffic advisory requesting companies and organisations across the commissionerate to allow employees to leave office early in a staggered manner following forecasts of moderate to heavy rainfall. The advisory recommended staggered logouts from 3:30 p.m. on August 3 to reduce travel-related risks, ease pressure on the road network, and ensure the smooth movement of emergency services.
