Actor John Abraham emphasized the need to address the root cause of the drug menace in Meghalaya, stating that efforts to combat the issue will remain limited unless the alleged political nexus behind the drug trade is dismantled. He made this statement while responding to a question on how to address the drug problem in the state. According to John, the current approach to tackling the issue amounts to ‘firefighting’ rather than resolving the underlying causes.
He stressed that eliminating the influence of powerful individuals allegedly linked to the drug trade is crucial for any long-term solution. John expressed his belief in a country free of drugs and encouraged young people to stay away from substance abuse. The actor’s comments came after attending an anti-drug awareness programme organised by the Meghalaya Social Welfare Department in Shillong.
He reiterated his stand against substance abuse, saying ‘I believe in no drugs and a country free of drugs.’ John’s statement highlights the need for a more comprehensive approach to addressing the drug problem in Meghalaya.
