Home Minister Mama Natung has reaffirmed the Arunachal Pradesh government’s commitment to resolving all pending boundary disputes through regional committees. Natung made this assertion on Tuesday while inaugurating a new fire station in Yupia, Papum Pare district, valued at Rs 3 crore.
The minister emphasized the crucial role of Assam in fostering regional harmony and urged people on both sides of the interstate border to maintain peace. He highlighted the recent disturbances along the interstate boundary in Tarasso area, where the state government has successfully resolved border disputes in five districts, with discussions underway in the remaining districts.
The newly inaugurated fire station, executed by the Urban Development Department, aims to enhance disaster preparedness and emergency response across the district. Natung also flagged off a fleet of newly inducted vehicles during the event.
Addressing the gathering, the minister noted that the state government has constructed 13 new fire stations across district headquarters over the last three years. Additionally, 337 new posts were created in the department during this period, raising the total strength of firefighters in Arunachal Pradesh to 811 personnel.
Natung also commended the Arunachal Pradesh Police’s anti-narcotics ‘Operation Dawn’, which has led to significant crackdowns on drug peddlers and trafficking networks over the last four years.
Tensions had flared up along the Arunachal-Assam interstate area in Sango village in Tarasso area of Papum Pare district on 15 July, following arson and firing incidents between residents and Assam forest personnel. However, MLAs from both sides of the disputed area, along with officials, met after the incident and resolved to maintain the status quo along the boundary.
