A tragic incident occurred in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district when a three-year-old boy fell into an open septic tank near the Omkareshwar Temple, resulting in his death. The incident took place on July 24, 2026, when Tanush Usrathe, a resident of Nagpur in Maharashtra, arrived in Omkareshwar with his family to visit the famous Jyotirlinga. According to officials, the child moved ahead in poor visibility and fell into the open septic tank shortly after his family got off a bus in Brahmpuri.
The child’s father immediately entered the tank, pulled his son out, and took him to a hospital, but unfortunately, the child died during treatment due to his lungs filling with contaminated water. A civic official has been suspended for negligence in connection with the incident. Khandwa district collector Rishav Gupta stated that the administration has found negligence on the part of a private lodge in the area and is considering legal action against them.
The lodge had requested permission to pick out useful items from the debris of a recently demolished construction but delayed the clearing process, and the contractor they hired damaged the septic tank lid. The engineer responsible for overseeing the work and closing the tank has been suspended. Sanket Bhondve, Commissioner, Urban Administration and Development Department, has issued orders to suspend Suresh Chandra Patidar, a Sub-Engineer with the Omkareshwar Nagar Parishad, who was responsible for the accident.
