Tirap DC calls for better bank-dept coordination

Tirap Deputy Commissioner Badonlum Tawsik emphasized the need for better coordination between banks and line departments to ensure government-sponsored schemes reach the right beneficiaries in a transparent and timely manner.

He made this statement while chairing a District Consultative Committee (DCC) and District Level Review Committee (DLRC) meeting in Khonsa on Friday. The DC urged all departments to work in convergence with financial institutions to improve credit flow, create livelihood opportunities, strengthen financial inclusion, and accelerate the socioeconomic development of Tirap district.

Tawsik also called upon banks to conduct financial literacy camps, with a special focus on villages along the Indo-Myanmar border and areas covered under the Vibrant Villages Programme-II (VVP-II). He stressed the need to create greater awareness about banking services, social security schemes, digital banking, and government-sponsored programmes to strengthen financial inclusion and improve outreach in these remote areas.

The DC emphasized the importance of timely disposal of loan applications, effective implementation of government flagship schemes, regular monitoring of beneficiaries, and wider public awareness of banking and financial assistance programmes. He urged all stakeholders to resolve bottlenecks through mutual coordination and collective efforts to achieve inclusive and sustainable development.

During the meeting, NABARD District Development Manager Rowncha Wangsu presented the bank’s performance review for the quarters ending March and June 2026. The committee discussed various topics, including agricultural credit, horticulture, fisheries, animal husbandry, self-employment, education loans, and self-help group financing.

Suggestions were made to improve banking services, increase institutional credit, and strengthen coordination among all stakeholders. The meeting was attended by representatives from various line departments and financial institutions, who pledged to work together to strengthen financial services, promote financial inclusion, and foster inclusive and sustainable development across the district.
