Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the formation of a high-powered task force to look into next-generation reforms for the country’s education sector, with Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani set to lead the initiative. The task force aims to make India’s education system more reliable, transparent, and technology-driven.
According to PM Modi, the task force is another step aimed at securing the future of the nation’s students. He emphasized the need for an education system that uses technology to the maximum and is dependable. The announcement comes on the eve of a new law aimed at increasing punishment and fines for those involved in exam paper leaks, scheduled to be tabled in Parliament.
The task force will focus on examination reform, and its report will be used to make the examination system more dependable as soon as possible. This is the third time PM Modi has directly engaged with the nation’s youth and students on the issue of paper leaks or the education system.
The Centre and PM Modi have taken various steps to reform the sector, including a complete overhaul of the National Testing Agency over the last week. Former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday, and the government is expected to table The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, in Parliament.
CPM Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas responded to PM Modi’s announcement, asking about the status of the K Radhakrishnan Committee set up two years ago after the NEET-UG paper-leak scandal. Brittas inquired about the 184-page report submitted by the committee.
The opposition has been demanding action against those involved in paper leaks and has sought the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi stated that no discussion over the NEET paper leak will take place in the House until Pradhan quits.
