Rajya Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh, Tai Tagak, has urged the Railway Ministry to consider starting a train service from Naharlagun to Chennai. He made this request during a meeting with Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Thursday.
Tagak emphasized the need for a train service from Naharlagun to Chennai, citing the benefits of safe, affordable, and convenient travel for students, patients, professionals, and other passengers from the Northeastern region, particularly those from Arunachal. He highlighted the importance of this service in facilitating travel to southern India.
As an alternative, Tagak requested a well-coordinated southbound superfast train connection from New Jalpaiguri (NJP) to the Naharlagun-New Delhi AC Super Fast Express. This would ensure seamless connectivity to southern India in case a direct service is not available in the immediate future.
Additionally, Tagak proposed renaming the Naharlagun-New Delhi AC Super Fast Express to ‘Arunachal Express’. He stated that this name change would help connect and strengthen the sense of identity, pride, and patriotism among the people of Arunachal.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw assured Tagak that he would give due consideration to the proposals. Tagak expressed his appreciation for the minister’s positive response, stating that they shared a commitment to strengthening railway connectivity and improving passenger convenience for the people of Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeastern region.
