The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has set up dedicated helpdesk numbers to coordinate relief efforts for families affected by the ongoing extreme weather events across the state. This move comes as the state has witnessed devastating landslides, severe flash floods, and widespread disruption of road and transport connectivity due to incessant rainfall, leaving many families homeless and in need of shelter and relief assistance.
To facilitate coordinated relief support from government departments and private agencies, the NSDMA has designated specific helpdesks. L. Jonjibemo Odyou, Assistant Manager (Relief, Recovery and Mitigation), NSDMA, Home Department, can be contacted at 8258896057 or via email at jonji2002@yahoo.co.in. Additionally, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) Helpdesk can be reached at 0370-2270129 or 0370-2270130, or by email at seoc.nsdma@gmail.com.
In a separate development, the Nagaland government has released Rs 70 lakh from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for immediate relief to families affected by the devastating landslides and flash floods that struck Mon district following incessant rainfall on July 19 and 20. The funds will be used to provide ex gratia assistance to the next of kin of those who lost their lives, gratuitous relief to the injured, and immediate assistance for houses damaged by the disaster.
The disaster in Mon district claimed nine lives, left several others injured, and caused extensive damage to residential houses, roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure. The district administration, in coordination with the NSDMA, district police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local community volunteers, continues to carry out search and rescue operations, damage assessment, distribution of relief materials, and restoration of essential services.
