ITANAGAR, 18 Jul: Power connectivity has been established in remote Vijaynagar circle in Changlang district, a region that has been isolated for decades due to the presence of dense forests, the local MLA said on Friday. The successful commissioning of the 2x250 kw Sirit micro hydro scheme (MHS) marks a significant leap in expanding modern infrastructure to the state’s farthest corners, Miao-Vijaynagar MLA Kamlung Mossang announced in a social media post. With the successful grid connectivity, Vijaynagar is poised to unlock its extensive potential in ecotourism, organic agriculture, and horticulture, driving sustainable regional development, according to officials.
Expressing gratitude for the achievement, Mossang described the project as a proud moment that aligns with the state’s vision for inclusive growth. “Access to electricity will significantly improve education, healthcare, communication, livelihoods, and the overall quality of life for the people here, while opening new doors for growth and economic progress,” Mossang said. Vijaynagar circle, which shares its borders with Myanmar and is surrounded by the Namdapha National Park, has historically faced immense geographical isolation.
For decades, its residents carried essential supplies overhead across rugged terrains, and the arrival of stable electricity marks a major developmental shift. The electricity project was executed through close coordination between the state’s Hydropower Development Department and the Power Department. Initially sanctioned to tap into the region’s vast small-hydro potential, the completion of the Sirit MHS fulfils a longstanding developmental assurance given to the remote frontier villages.
The lawmaker extended his appreciation to Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein for their sustained commitment to prioritising infrastructure in remote border locations. He also lauded the technical and field departments for overcoming immense logistical challenges to see the project through to completion. The project, which has been completed at an estimated cost of over Rs 14 crore, will benefit over 1,500 residents of eight villages, including Dara gaon, Dawodi, Phaparbari, Gahrigaon, Hazolo, Ramnagar, Buddhamandir, and Vijaynagar headquarters.
