Members of the Nagaland Tourism Association (NTA) and the Ziro Tourism Organisation (ZTO) have jointly advocated for the mandatory engagement of certified local tourist guides in Arunachal Pradesh. The NTA delegation, currently on a familiarisation tour of the state, met with the ZTO in Lower Subansiri district to discuss the importance of local guides in shaping the travel experience.
The conversation highlighted the invaluable role that local tourist guides play in bringing a region’s rich history, diverse culture, and natural heritage to life. Both organisations acknowledged that a guide is more than just a navigator; they are the true ambassadors of a destination. Professional and knowledgeable guides ensure that travellers connect with and respect local communities, customs, and environments.
ZTO chairman Hibu Tatu, NTA chairman Vimeto Vakha, and secretary AsebaKezo recognised the need to elevate the quality of travel in the Northeast and advocated for mandatory engagement of certified local tourist guides. This policy would not only safeguard cultural authenticity and ensure visitor safety but also generate meaningful employment opportunities for local youths.
The meeting concluded with both organisations reaffirming their commitment to the future of tourism in the Northeast. The ZTO and the NTA pledged to work together to promote sustainable, community-based travel that protects the region’s cultural and natural heritage while ensuring long-term, responsible economic growth.
The NTA delegation has already visited Namsai and Pasighat, exploring the regions’ vast tourism potential and fostering strong interstate cooperation. Their familiarisation tour aims to strengthen ties between Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, ultimately benefiting the tourism industry in the Northeast.
