In a bid to ensure safe travel along National Highway-37, the Noney district administration in Manipur has set up a Highway Patrol Team. The team’s primary objective is to curb extortion, facilitate regular road maintenance, and ensure smooth traffic movement. This initiative was taken by Noney Deputy Commissioner Vidhyamari Sridhar.
The Highway Patrol Team comprises an Executive Magistrate from the district administration, officials of the Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Forces, the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, and representatives of road contracting agencies engaged in the construction and maintenance of NH-37. The team will conduct regular patrols and inspections along the highway to prevent illegal extortion, address issues affecting commuters, monitor the progress and quality of ongoing road maintenance works, and ensure effective coordination among all stakeholder agencies. The team will also facilitate the prompt resolution of issues that may disrupt the safe and uninterrupted movement of vehicles.
According to the district administration, the safety and security of commuters travelling along NH-37 remain a top priority. All concerned departments and agencies have been directed to work in close coordination to maintain law and order, improve road conditions, and provide a safe travel environment for the public. Deputy Commissioner Vidhyamari Sridhar has appealed to transporters, commercial vehicle operators, and members of the public to cooperate with the Highway Patrol Team and report any incidents of extortion, intimidation, or other unlawful activities to the nearest authority.
The district administration has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that NH-37 continues to serve as a safe, reliable, and efficient lifeline for the people of Manipur.
