Upper Siang deputy commissioner Talo Jerang has urged all stakeholders to remain vigilant and maintain a high level of alertness throughout the ongoing monsoon season. This call to action was made during a monsoon preparedness review meeting held in Yingkiong on Tuesday, where Jerang emphasized the need for prompt response to emergencies.

The deputy commissioner, who is also the Upper Siang DDMA chairman, specifically highlighted the importance of addressing road blockades at Dite Dime-Migging and along the Tuting-Palling-Yingkiong road. He noted that this road serves as a vital lifeline for the people residing in the Tuting sub-division and adjoining border areas, and also carries immense strategic importance.

Jerang instructed all departments concerned to work in close coordination to restore connectivity at the earliest whenever disruptions occur. This directive is particularly relevant given the recent experience of the Dite-Dime-Migging-Tuting road, which remained closed for almost a month due to massive landslides, causing immense problems for people living in Tuting sub-division.

Fortunately, the road was restored and made operational for traffic movement on 14 July. The meeting also featured briefings from heads of various line departments, along with officials from Border Roads Organisation and representatives from road construction companies, on the status of road connectivity, power and water supplies, and availability of essential commodities.

District disaster management officer Anie Yangfo stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among all departments to ensure effective disaster preparedness and timely response during the monsoon season. The meeting provided a platform for a one-to-one interaction with all line departments to take stock of their preparedness and response mechanisms.
